APPLY TO PRESENT AT WLG-X

WLG-X is a 5-day festival of creative collisions – bringing in international speakers to share the stage with national and local talent. This is your opportunity to be part of it.

We’re looking for speakers in the fields of tech, design, music, and film, as well the X: collaborations and ideas that bridge the creative industries and defy easy categorisation.

We have a range of opportunities to present – from large keynote sessions through to more intimate and niche sessions for special interest groups.

As a presenter, you’ll get a full festival pass to learn, network and maximise your festival experience. Connect with some of the world’s most creative and influential minds. Launch yourself into the public eye as a leader in your field. Build your professional reputation. Speak at WLG-X.

SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

Ready to go? There’s a few more details in the application form – including a short bio, a brief description of your talk, and what the audience will get out of it. Check out the form to see what you’ll have to complete (a quick note: you can’t save a form in progress, but if you submit you can edit it later). We also recommend taking a look at the Q&A below.

So go on. Share the stage with our international experts, and show the WLG-X crowd what you’ve got:

Applications close 5pm on Monday, April 1, 2019.

Q&A

If you’ve got a question that isn’t answered here, email programme@wlg-x.com. We’ll get back to you ASAP and add any FAQs to this list.

When and where is WLG-X?
11-15 September 2019, across a range of venues in central Wellington, New Zealand. You and any co-presenters must be able to present on any one of these days. Plus – as presenters you’ll get a free festival pass, so we recommend sticking around for the entire time anyway!

What’s in it for me?
You’ll get a full festival pass for free (worth $800+) – and with it, the opportunity to network (so much easier when people can approach you about the great talk you just did!), and to enjoy five amazing days of talks, performances, and films.

Can I pitch my new product / service / magic trick to the crowd?
Yeah nah. The WLG-X stages are not an opportunity for you to deliver a sales pitch. Sales pitches disguised as proposals will not be accepted. If you want to sell, there will be an Expo as part of the festival. Contact us if you’re keen to be involved in the Expo.

How will you select the speakers?
Our Lead Curator will work with the Advisory Group to select the proposals based on a series of criteria. We will be looking to ensure there is a range of topics and formats. e.g. if there are ten people presenting on ‘The Future of Work’, we’ll only select a few, and if everyone wants to do a 2.5h workshop there are only so many slots in the five days.

What makes for a good presentation?
Your talk is should be specific, well-planned, and audience-focused. Keep your topic to the point, with an informative title. ‘The Future of Independent Streaming’ is better than ‘The Future of Music’. We’ll be asking for presentation slides and supporting materfour weeks beforehand, partially because a well-planned session makes for a successful session. Finally – think carefully about what your audience is getting from this. Examples of how to…? Inspiration to…? Lessons from…?

Any tips for putting together a great panel?
An engaging panel discussion involves three things: picking the right people, picking the right topic, and managing your panelists. Yes, you’ll want to find like-minded thinkers, but you won’t want them to agree on everything. Where’s the fun in that? This is the place for healthy debate, intelligent arguments and thoughtful discussions.

Can I submit more than one application?
Yes, you can.

I’m in a band, can we perform at WLG-X?
Absolutely. Head to our page about Applying to Perform – the conditions and process are a bit different.
